About
A Letter from Our Head of School
When I began envisioning Waterford Ridge School, I was guided by a central question: What kind of learning environment do capable and intellectually curious children need in their early years?
Over many years working in Montessori, independent schools, and advanced academic settings, I observed that many students were either under-challenged or placed in environments that prioritized activity over depth. I founded Waterford Ridge to offer a different model—one that is calm, intellectually focused, and designed for sustained, meaningful work.
At Waterford Ridge, learning is intentional and unhurried. Students engage deeply with ideas through materials, discussion, inquiry, and extended academic work. Our program blends principles from gifted education with Montessori methodology, emphasizing independence, sustained concentration, and readiness-based challenge rather than age-based progression alone. Students are expected to think critically, ask questions, and take increasing responsibility for their learning.
Equally important is the tone of the environment. Classrooms are calm, purposeful, and structured to support focus and independence. Students are guided toward thoughtful participation, respect for others, and care in their work. We believe children thrive when expectations are clear, relationships are strong, and learning is taken seriously.
Waterford Ridge is intentionally small. This allows each student to be known well, instruction to be precise, and the learning environment to remain focused and consistent. Families who choose our school are seeking a structured, academically engaged program that values depth, independence, and intellectual growth.
Thank you for your interest in Waterford Ridge School. I look forward to partnering with families who value a thoughtful, challenging, and purposeful education.

Mission
Waterford Ridge School provides a calm, intellectually focused environment where students develop independence, concentration, and the ability to think deeply. The program is designed for learners who benefit from meaningful challenge, clear expectations, and sustained academic work.
Our Educational Approach
Waterford Ridge School is informed by research in gifted education and an understanding of how capable learners develop across intellectual, social, and academic domains.
We draw from principles articulated by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), emphasizing advanced reasoning, conceptual understanding, and opportunities for accelerated mastery when appropriate. Students are expected to engage with challenging material, think critically, and take increasing ownership of their learning.
The program also incorporates elements of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) to support inquiry, problem-solving, and exposure to complex ideas. Students are introduced to disciplines, guided in research and thinking processes, and encouraged to pursue questions with depth and purpose.
Montessori methodology provides the instructional framework. Extended work cycles, carefully designed materials, and an emphasis on independence allow students to engage deeply, build mastery through sustained effort, and develop strong executive functioning skills. Montessori is used intentionally to support readiness-based learning and academic progression.
Mixed-Age Learning Communities
Waterford Ridge School uses a mixed-age model rather than traditional grade-level groupings. This reflects the reality that students develop at different rates across subjects.
Students are grouped based on readiness, level of challenge, and engagement rather than age alone. This allows for more appropriate pacing, reduces unnecessary repetition, and supports both depth and progression.
Teachers guide instruction to ensure that each student is appropriately challenged. Students benefit from exposure to a range of ideas and levels of thinking, while developing independence and confidence in their work.
Small by Design
Waterford Ridge School is intentionally small. This is a deliberate design choice that allows for precision in instruction and consistency in expectations. Students are known well as learners. Instruction can be responsive, expectations can remain high, and the learning environment can be carefully maintained. Teachers are able to observe closely, guide intentionally, and support each student’s academic growth with clarity and purpose.
Families who choose Waterford Ridge value a focused environment where time, attention, and intellectual engagement are prioritized.
Leadership
Waterford Ridge School is founder-led, with leadership actively involved in instruction, curriculum development, and program design. This ensures consistency between the school’s philosophy and daily practice.
The teaching team includes educators with advanced, subject-specific expertise, including dedicated instruction in mathematics, language, and enrichment areas. This structure allows for depth of instruction and a level of academic attention not typically possible in larger settings.
